Demolition commences on Stanhope’s 5 Hanover Square

Mitsui Fudosan UK and its development manager, Stanhope has started demolition on the former UK headquarters of Japan Airlines at five Hanover Square, within the Mayfair Conservation Area. In its place, construction manager Mace will build a landmark low-rise mixed use scheme. The 90,000 sq ft Squire and Partners-designed building will deliver 65,000 sq ft of high quality office space to the West End market in time for the second quarter of 2012, along with 10,000 sq ft of retail space at street level, and 15,000 sq ft of residential space in the form of just five luxury apartments, highlighting the size of the accommodation, likely to command a super-prime rent given the area.

Unlike the previous 1960’s building, Squire and Partners has ensured that the new building is more in keeping with its historic surroundings, which includes Vogue House. The new block will make extensive use of a dark grey/black brick cladding, interrupted by deep windows lined with a white marble and vertical bronze fins.
